Marbella (Málaga) (EFE).- The mayoress of Marbella (Málaga), Ángeles Muñoz (PP), has raised her salary and will earn 92,928 gross euros per year, around 2,000 euros more than what the President of the Government charges, Pedro Sánchez (90,010 euros) and 22,000 more than the president of the Board, Juanma Moreno (71,667 euros).
This is the maximum salary that the mayor of a city with more than 150,000 inhabitants can receive, and makes Muñoz the Andalusian mayor who earns the most, even ahead of councilors of provincial capitals such as Malaga, whose mayor, Francisco de la Torre , receives an annual salary of around 87,000 euros.
In a brief intervention before the municipal plenary session, Muñoz did not detail what the salaries would be after the increase, but previously the councilors had received a list with the final amounts, to which EFE had access this Wednesday.
Muñoz alluded to the general State budget and the remuneration system of the Malaga Provincial Council to introduce the issue.
The mayoress justifies the salary increase due to the number of inhabitants of Marbella
He then recalled the number of inhabitants of Marbella -just over 150,000- and that it is a “big city” to justify the increase in the salaries of the members of the municipal corporation.
The salary increase for the municipal government team was approved with the votes in favor of the popular councilors and the abstentions of the PSOE and the Opción Sampedreña (OSP) party, and only the two Vox councilors voted against.
The other members of the municipal corporation will also benefit from the approved increase, in which the deputy mayors -except for two who will receive 85,000 euros for attendance at plenary sessions and commissions- will receive 85,000 euros and the councilors -except one, who will also in regime of assistance to plenary sessions- will receive 75,000 euros per year.
Among the opposition councilors, only six councilors – three of the eight representatives of the PSOE and the three councilors of the OSP – will have a fixed salary from the City Council, which ranges from 31,500 euros to 42,000 euros per year, while those of Vox will not. They will have a fixed salary and will charge for their attendance at plenary sessions and commissions.
