Mérida (EFE).- On July 5 and 6, the Assembly of Extremadura will hold the full investiture of the socialist candidate for the presidency of the Junta, Guillermo Fernández Vara, the only candidacy “registered” and “formalized” to date.
This was announced this Wednesday at a press conference by the president of the Assembly, Blanca Martin, after consulting yesterday with the spokespersons and presidents of the parliamentary groups with representation in the chamber -PSOE, PP, Vox and United for Extremadura-.
In these meetings, the PSOE candidate for the presidency of the Junta, Guillermo Fernández Vara, announced his willingness to stand for investiture, despite not having sufficient support, while the PP candidate, María Guardiola, asked for “a few days ” to resume contacts with Vox, since, according to what he said, “the center-right bloc” is the only one that can add that necessary majority.
Vara, the only one who has formalized his candidacy
In a press conference this Wednesday, Blanca Martín explained that she has not agreed to the request of the PP candidate to delay the “failed” investiture of Fernández Vara, because she has to comply with the law, which is what marks the Statute of Autonomy and the Regulations of the Assembly.
As he has specified, at the moment there is only one candidate who has formalized and registered his candidacy, which is the socialist Fernández Vara, and, therefore, he does not have to make “more interpretations, than apply the law.”
The plenary session on the 5th will begin at 6:00 p.m. and on the 6th at 9:00 a.m., taking place 48 hours after the vote, on Saturday the 8th, a new vote, in which only a simple majority would be necessary.
In her speech, the president of the Chamber has indicated that a month has passed since the elections of May 28, a date on which the people of Extremadura voted for the region to have a government “whatever it was” and none voted to be “in a political limbo” or “paralyze the region”.
For this reason, and in compliance with the provisions of the Statute of Autonomy and the Regulations of the Assembly, the Chamber was constituted on June 20, from which time, as he has said, he has worked “scrupulously” to meet the deadlines.
