Sports writing, June 28 (EFE).- The Asturian Laura Fuertes made history and became the first Spanish boxer to qualify for the Olympic Games, after sealing her passport for Paris 2024 on Wednesday by accessing the semifinals of the Games Krakow Europeans.
Fuertes, who in 2022 became the first Spanish boxer to win a World Cup medal, once again broke a new barrier after securing one of the four Olympic places at stake in the 50-kilo category in the Polish city.
For her, the Spaniard had to defeat the Portuguese Rita de Pinho Soares in the quarterfinals, in a match that went in favor of Laura Fuertes by unanimous decision (5-0) of the judges.
A success that the 23-year-old boxer from Gijón will try to round off with a medal in the European Games for which she will have to defeat the French Wassila Lkhadiri, bronze in the last World Cups, in the semifinals of the tournament on Thursday.
