Santa Cruz de Tenerife (EFE).- The Canary Islands Coalition (CC) and the Popular Party (PP) have proposed on Wednesday the nationalist Fernando Clavijo as the next president of the Canary Islands, while the head of the acting Canarian executive, Ángel Víctor Torres (PSOE) he has renounced it, “aware of reality”.
Approaches that Ángel Víctor Torres, José Miguel Barragán (CC) and Manuel Domínguez (PP) have communicated to the president of the Parliament of the Canary Islands, Astrid Pérez, who has begun this Wednesday the round of consultations with the political formations to establish the investiture of the next President of the Canary Islands
The first to meet with the president of the Parliament of the Canary Islands was Ángel Víctor Torres, who, upon leaving the meeting, recalled that the PSOE was the party with the most votes in the elections held on May 28, when it obtained 23 deputies.
Ángel Víctor Torres recalled that in those days he informed the general leadership of his party that although he would start negotiations to form a government, he was aware of the difficulty because there were negotiations between CC and PP.
He explained that during election night he received a call from the Canary Coalition candidate, Fernando Clavijo, who congratulated him on the results, and added that he conveyed to the nationalist leader his conviction that the agreement between this formation and the Popular Party was closed.
Ángel Víctor Torres has stated that there were meetings with all the political groups and he verified that the negotiations between CC and PP were advancing.
And “today, you have to be aware of reality” and see that there is a possibility of 38 votes, which add up to 19 from CC, 15 from the PP, 3 from Agrupación Socialista Gomera (ASG) and 1 from Agrupación Herreña Independiente (AHI), for which reason Ángel Víctor Torres has neither the capacity nor the possibility of being sworn in as president of the Canary Islands, and for this reason he renounces running.
Also part of the Parliament of the Canary Islands in the eleventh legislature are 4 deputies from Vox and 5 from Nueva Canarias-Bloque Canarista (NC-BC).
After announcing that he is resigning, Ángel Víctor Torres has declared that his party will go to the investiture debate with a rigorous, serious, coherent, responsible and demanding intervention, and has stressed that he will exercise an opposition to control the regional government in favor of the general interest.
Torres has pointed out that the PSOE is not only the main opposition party but also the entire regional Parliament.
After Ángel Víctor Torres met with the president of the Parliament of the Canary Islands, the nationalist José Miguel Barragán, who has emphasized his party’s agreement with the PP, to which AHI and ASG have joined, so that Fernando Clavijo, who was the President of the Canary Islands in the ninth legislature is also in the eleventh.
Next, the president of the Canarian PP, Manuel Domínguez, said that he had told Astrid Pérez that his party supports the candidacy of Fernando Clavijo to preside over a government in which he will be vice-president.
Manuel Domínguez has assured that what he wants to do is give stability to the future of the Canary Islands with an agreement with the Canary Islands Coalition.
The consultations of the president of the Parliament of the Canary Islands will continue on Thursday, when she will receive representatives of the rest of the parties that have achieved parliamentary representation. EFE
