Lisbon (EFE).- The president of the European Central Bank (ECB), Christine Lagarde, confirmed today that there will be a new rise in interest rates in July and warned that it is “unlikely” that the entity can soon affirm that it has reached the peak.
“It is unlikely that in the near future the central bank will be able to say with full confidence that the maximum rates have been reached,” he said during an introductory speech at the ECB’s annual forum in Sintra, Portugal.
Lagarde confirmed that the bank “will continue to raise rates in July” to combat high inflation and insisted that monetary policy remain at restrictive levels “as long as necessary.”
