Madrid (EFE).- The average cost per student in Spain rises to 6,622 euros -almost three times less than Luxembourg- and the communities where it has risen the most are the Canary Islands (29.6%), Castilla-La Mancha (26, 2%), Castilla y León (22.5%) and Madrid (22.1%), according to the “State System of Education Indicators 2023”.
The document of more than a hundred pages and that the Ministry of Education has just published on its website details the average expenditure per student in absolute terms (euros) and in relation to GDP per inhabitant.
According to the latest official data available, in 2020 the average expenditure per student is 6,622 euros, which represents 28% of GDP per inhabitant -in these figures public and private expenditures for public and private centers are considered- , explains the report.
Student spending in Spain rises according to the evolution of the educational stage
As you go up in the different educational stages, the cost per student is higher: in infants it is 5,440 euros, 23% of GDP per inhabitant; in primary it is 5,629 euros, 23.8% of GDP per inhabitant; in secondary it is 6,923 euros, 29.3% of GDP; and in Higher Education it is 8,793 euros, 37.2% of GDP.
In view of this statistic, investment has risen by 19.8% compared to 2014, the year in which the minimum of the last decade was recorded.
In all regions there has been an increase over 2015 and the ones that have done so the most are the Canary Islands (29.6%), Castilla-La Mancha (26.2%), Castilla y León (22.5%) and Madrid (22%). ,1 %).
The autonomies with the highest public spending per student in non-university public centers are the Basque Country, Navarra, Castilla y León and Galicia.
In relation to the European Union, the highest average expenditure per student in public and private centers for the set of educational stages (excluding the first cycle of infants) corresponds to Luxembourg, with an average expenditure of 17,121 euros, followed by Sweden with 10,487 euro.
The lowest are in Romania and Bulgaria, 3,856 and 4,312 euros, respectively.
