Madrid/Toledo (EFE).- The first heat wave of this summer that affects Castilla-La Mancha will reach its peak intensity this Monday with maximums that could exceed 44 degrees.
The Aemet spokesman, Rubén del Campo, has warned that these temperatures carry an “extreme” risk.
Andalusia, Extremadura, Castilla-La Mancha and the Community of Madrid are the areas most affected by the sweltering heat.
“We have at least three more days of very intense heat ahead of us” warned Del Campo, to ask the population for “great caution” and also with forest fires.
Faced with this situation, Meteorology has activated this Monday the warning for intense heat in 8 communities -Aragón, both Castillas, Catalonia, Extremadura, Madrid, the Valencian Community and Andalusia.
In the latter there is a red warning (extreme risk) for temperatures of 44 degrees in the Cordoba and Seville countryside.
Del Campo explained that these temperatures continue in line with those registered this Sunday, when maximum temperatures of over 42 degrees were reached in Western Andalusia and southern Extremadura: 43 degrees in Fuentes de Andalucía (Seville) and in Montoro (Córdoba) and 44 degrees in El Granado (Huelva).
The heat wave also leaves hot nights
The spokesman has also warned about the very warm values of this past dawn.
At 6 in the morning, for example, the thermometers exceeded 25 degrees in many points in the southern half and in the capital Cádiz up to 27 degrees were recorded at that time.
This heat wave is mainly affecting the central and southwestern part of the Iberian Peninsula, with greater intensity in the Community of Madrid, Extremadura, western Castilla-La Mancha and Andalusia.
Although in other areas such as the northern plateau, Aragon, Mediterranean communities and Mallorca the heat is also intense.
Cantabrian communities get rid of the heat wave
On the contrary, the Cantabrian communities, where the northerly winds bring cloudiness and keep temperatures below 25 degrees, are spared from this situation.
Del Campo has observed another aspect to highlight for these next few days, such as the possibility of locally strong storms in the center and north of the peninsula, helped by the intense heat.
Some of these storms could be the so-called “dry” ones, those that leave hardly any precipitation, but plenty of electrical equipment and strong gusts of wind.
For Tuesday, a similar situation will persist with a very hot environment, except in the Bay of Biscay, and temperatures will exceed 34-36 degrees in the southern half and in the Ebro depression and 38-40 degrees in the Tagus and Guadiana valleys. and Guadalquivir.
In the Guadalquivir it will probably exceed 42 degrees, especially in Córdoba and Seville.
These values contrast with the 23-25 degrees of maximum in the north of Navarra, Cantabrian communities, north of Galicia, Pamplona, Vitoria and A Coruña.
That day there will also be storms in mountain and surrounding areas of the central east and north of the country, with the possibility that some of these storms will be dry.
Wednesday will continue with similar temperatures
On Wednesday there will be hardly any changes in the situation, with a very warm environment again and with temperatures similar to those of Tuesday in most of the territory.
On the contrary, it will be cooler in the Cantabrian communities with the possibility of storms in mountainous environments.
During these two days, the early mornings will also be very warm and it will not drop from 20 to 22 degrees in the Mediterranean area, in the central zone and in the southern half, and there will even be points where it will not drop from 25 degrees to sunrise.
