Huelva, (EFE) more than 500 years ago.
It will be adult mares and foals that have been born this year in the natural space that reach the corrals of the Almonte livestock enclosure, Huerta de la Cañada.
The studs have left for Doñana today and, once inside, they will be divided into groups to begin the work of regrouping the equines, which graze throughout the year in different areas of the natural enclave.
Around 9:00 am tomorrow, the first troops formed -a total of six- will begin to arrive at the village of El Rocío, entering through the area known as the “Boca del lobo”, to later stop in front of the sanctuary and pray the traditional save the patron saint of Almonte.
Grandstand for 1,000 people
As reported by the National Association of Marshland Cattle Breeders through social networks, due to the high temperatures that are expected and for the sake of animal welfare, farmers and visitors, it has been decided to bring forward the hours of the act of the passage of troops through the Sanctuary of El Rocío, establishing that of the first troop, the one coming from the Matochal farm, at 9.30 am.
This year, as a novelty, some stands with capacity for 1,000 people have been installed at this point.
After this passage, the different troops will go to the planned resting area, from which, around 6:30 p.m., the first troop will leave for Almonte, where, upon arrival, they will cross the town until they reach the Livestock Enclosure, where they will remain until on June 30.
There, the work of marking and cutting the mane and tail will be carried out, as well as the deworming of the animals.
This tradition was regularized in 1504 with an ordinance of the Duke of Medina Sidonia in which the figure of the “yegüerizo” of the council was mentioned and established that the cattle should be removed from the meadows delimited for the purpose for the festival of San Juan, on the 24th of June, thus normalizing an ancestral practice.
