Tokyo (EFE).- The G7 foreign ministers agreed to coordinate regarding the situation in Russia, following the rebellion of the Wagner group against the military leadership of Russian President Vladimir Putin, during an emergency telephone conference held on Saturday .
The G7 foreign ministers participated this Saturday in a telephone meeting where they discussed “pressing issues facing the international community, including the situation in Russia,” according to the head of Japanese diplomacy, Yoshimasa Hayashi, in a statement published today.
The call lasted about 40 minutes and included the ministers of the Group of Seven -formed by Japan, the United States, Canada, France, Italy, Germany and the United Kingdom-, except for the Italian, as well as a representative of the European Union .
All of them “shared the opinion that the G-7 will continue to work closely together,” the text states.
The group’s response comes after a challenge that began on Friday night, when the uprising of the Russian mercenary group Wagner was announced, alleging that they had suffered an attack by the Russian Ministry of Defense itself.
The head of this group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, has already stopped his rebellion against Putin’s military leadership 200 kilometers from the capital to avoid bloodshed, he said.
The Russian president described the Wagner uprising as treason and affirmed that those responsible will pay for it.
