Logroño, (EFE).- Some 2,000 people stained Logroño with vindication during the demonstration in commemoration of the International Day of LGTBI+ Pride to face “a reactionary wave that is traveling all over the world and beginning to reach Spain.”
This was stated by the president of the organizing association, GYLDA LGTBI+, Ruth García Pinar, in an informative meeting during the course of this concentration, in which two tractors decorated with the theme of the act and numerous rainbow flags stood out.
“In countries as developed as the US, or as close as Italy, we see how LGTBI+ rights are being lost and going backwards, in Uganda atrocities are occurring and, in some parts of the world, we are still imprisoned or even killed”, García Pinar has emphasized.
The motto of this year’s Riojan demonstration is “For families, for rights, with pride”, which accompanies the thematic year of families that is commemorated at the national level.
The president of GYLDA LGTBI+ was “happy because not only the people of the group are working to make society more just, plural and egalitarian, but more than 30 associations have joined this Pride demonstration to make a region in which that you can live much better”.
“Currently, thanks to the recent LGTBI+ Law, the people who come to demonstrate will be able to celebrate that their lives are more dignified and freer, and that they have fewer difficulties on a day-to-day basis, but this is not just a matter of the LGTBI+ people, but it is key that this idea permeates the whole of society”.
Stand up to hate speech
A large rainbow flag has been the most visible symbol throughout the route along with two tractors, one of them decorated by USO La Rioja, accompanied by a tide of people who have crossed the Gran Vía in Logroño to end up in La Concha de El Espolón, where a manifesto was read.
This manifesto has claimed that “today, we need activism, we need a strong and united society that stands up to hate speech, and the color of the streets of Logroño reflects the diversity of our society.”
“While Russia prohibits any mention of the existence of LGTBI+ people, the United Kingdom paralyzes its Gender Recognition Law, Poland approves ‘LGBTBI+ person-free’ zones and Hungary passes laws to prohibit talking about sexual diversity”, continues this document.
In the year of families, this manifesto has demanded “agile and homogeneous adoption and foster care processes; the recognition of multi-parenthood and non-binary identities; equal rights for LGTBI+ families throughout the European Union (EU); and policies to eradicate aggressions and harassment against children of LGTBI+ families”.
