London (EFE).- The Murcian tennis player Carlos Alcaraz defeated Alex de Miñaur (6-4 and 6-4) in the final and won the title of champion of the Queen’s grass tournament, which is enough for him to recover the world number 1 at the expense of Djokovic.
The victory allows him to reach Wimbledon as the best tennis player in the world “ranking” after winning a title on grass before Nadal, Federer or Djokovic himself, already becoming one of the best on this surface as well.
“It’s incredible to live this experience in front of all my family and my team,” said the Murcian in the interview at the foot of the track after beating the Australian Alex de Miñaur.
Thigh problems for Alcaraz
During the first set, De Minaur did not make it easy and held out for eight games. However, Alcaraz took advantage of his opportunity and took the lead.
In the second, Alcaraz asked for help from the physio for a problem on the inside of his right thigh that ended in a bandage but did not prevent him from winning the game.
Alcaraz becomes the fourth Spaniard to win at Queen’s; before it was achieved by Andrés Gimeno (1960), Rafael Nadal (2008) and Feliciano López (2017 and 2019). While it took Djokovic six years, Federer four, and Nadal five to win his first title on grass, Alcaraz has required two years and eleven matches to reign on the toughest surface of all.
