Barcelona, June 24 (EFE).- A man died in the Lleida municipality of Gimenells i el Pla de la Font when he fell into a bonfire lit in this town as part of the San Juan festival.
The Generalitat Firefighters have reported that they received notice of the event at 10:15 p.m. and that they have gone to the scene with two crews, which have quickly put out the bonfire so that the members of the Medical Emergency System (SEM) could attend the person, without being able to do anything to save his life.
Several patrols of the Mossos have also moved to the place, which have taken charge of the judicial procedures and the investigation of the causes of the event.
Firefighters act before the burning containers
The Generalitat Fire Brigade responded to 323 calls between 10 and 12 midnight yesterday, during the Sant Joan festival, most of the time to put out urban vegetation fires -a total of 95-, and the burning of containers, -76 services-.
In these two hours, the Firefighters have also acted to put out 19 fires in buildings, 8 agricultural vegetation fires and 17 forest vegetation fires.
