Madrid (EFE).- The National Institute of Statistics (INE) has increased the growth registered by the Spanish economy in the first quarter of the year to 0.6%, one tenth more than initially estimated, according to data from national accounting released this Friday.
Quarterly economic growth has been supported by a notable recovery in exports, which have gone from falling in the fourth quarter to rising by 5.7% in the first, and by business investment, which has grown by 3.5%.
The good evolution of exports and investment has occurred in a context in which household consumption has plummeted, with a contraction of 1.4%, so that national demand (consumption and investment) has subtracted 0 .9 points to the quarterly increase in GDP, while foreign demand (exports and imports) has contributed 1.5 points.
