Madrid (EFE).- Queen Sofía chaired this Wednesday the annual meeting of the International Circle of the Superior School of Music that bears her name, held after an agreement with the Qatar Foundation for academic and artistic projects that will also mean its support for the reform and naming of a new building.
The International Circle of the Reina Sofía School of Music was created with the aim of promoting the school internationally and consolidating the support of a group of patrons from all over the world, who contribute to the development of the school.
The president of the circle, Paloma O’Shea de Botín, announced on Tuesday a new agreement with the Qatar Foundation, a state non-profit organization, through its vice president, Sheikha ind bint Hamad Al Thani, who yesterday signed this partnership in Madrid.
“We are excited to collaborate with the Qatar Foundation on academic and artistic projects and on naming the new building. For the school it is a transcendent agreement”, assured O’Shea during the closing of the 2022-2023 academic year.
Educational and exchange opportunities for young musicians
The agreement will mean providing educational and exchange opportunities to young musicians from Spain and Qatar, and its project is the establishment of a chair of Arabic and Oriental Music at the Reina Sofía Superior School of Music, in collaboration with the Qatar Academy of Music.
“Music has the ability to open windows to the world and improve pathways to knowledge, broadening our perspectives and building bridges between cultures,” Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani said in a statement from the Qatar Foundation.
He also recalled that “Spain and the Arab world have a shared history” and pointed out the importance of “working with an institution whose reputation for fostering musical talent, artistic innovation, and making the arts accessible to all is known throughout everyone”.
The Qatar Foundation invests in, promotes and provides access to music and arts education for young people. “Participation in music among the youth of Qatar, and its community in general, will be significantly enhanced with this collaboration with the Reina Sofía School of Music”, concluded Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani.
