Madrid (EFE) to an episode of high temperatures with values between 35 and 42 degrees.
With a high probability, the summer season will leave “temperatures above the normal average”, has advanced Rubén Del Campo, spokesman for the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), to add that, in fact, it could be one of the five hottest summers warm periods of the reference period 1993-2016.
Very hot and stormy summer
As well as being very warm, weather forecasts point to a stormy summer, with above-average rainfall for this time of year and with periods marked by stability and heat, interrupted by shorter cycles of unstable weather and storms. .
Del Campo explained that these situations are something “common” in the summer season, but, nevertheless -he has influenced- that perhaps this year the alternation of storms with monotonous periods of warm days will occur “more frequently”.
In the short term, this Wednesday it is still necessary to “pay attention” to the storms, accompanied by hail, which will affect large areas of the north, east and center of the peninsula and which may be strong, with more than 15-20 liters per meter square in less than 1 hour, for which reason it has called for “caution”, in the face of a significant risk.
Alert today in twelve communities for rains and storms
In this way, twelve communities continue today on alert for rains and strong storms, with special incidence in Aragón, both Castillas, Navarra, the Basque Country and La Rioja, where there is an orange warning (significant risk) due to an accumulated rainfall of 30 liters in a hour.
As of Thursday, “the weather changes clearly and for several days” to prevail the slightly cloudy skies with values in “progressive and generalized ascent” thanks to atmospheric stability and the possible arrival of a mass of warm air from latitudes lowest in North Africa.
It is an “important warm episode”, with daytime values between 5 and 10 degrees above normal values, and although it is still early, “we cannot rule out” that from the weekend the thresholds of ” necessary intensity, extension and duration” to talk about the first heat wave of the summer of 2023.
In this way, over the next few days -at least until the middle of next week-, temperatures will exceed 35 degrees in a large part of the center and south of the peninsula and in some areas of the north, while in the valleys of the Tagus, Guadiana and Guadalquivir will reach or exceed 40-42 degrees.
In the same way, the nights will also be very warm with lows close to 20-22 degrees on the Mediterranean coast, center and south of the peninsula.
General temperature rise over the weekend
For the weekend, “a new generalized rise” in temperatures is expected again, with 35 degrees in most of the center and south of the peninsula, in large areas of the northeast and the northern plateau and 40-42º in the Valleys of the Tagus, Guadiana and Guadalquivir.
By way of example, cities like Valladolid, Zaragoza, Zamora, Lleida or Madrid will exceed 38º and Cáceres, Ciudad Real, Toledo, Jaén or Huelva, especially on Sunday, will be around 40 degrees; in cities like Seville, Córdoba or Badajoz they could be around 42 degrees and even exceed them.
This situation of high temperatures without great variations will persist throughout the first days of next week, when the heat and little cloudy skies would also remain.
As for the Canary Islands, starting next Monday they could experience a significant rise in temperatures, with values that could reach or exceed 35 degrees.
