Villadangos del Páramo (León) (EFE).- The president of the Junta de Castilla y León, Alfonso Fernández Mañueco, praised this Wednesday the “great commitment and firm commitment” of Mercadona for the Community, which is reflected in 4,300 employees in its territory and in the 2,100 million purchases from local suppliers during the last year.
After visiting the Mercadona logistics block in the Villadangos del Páramo industrial estate (León), which has a workforce of almost a thousand workers, the head of the regional government thanked this distribution company for its commitment to Castilla y León and more specifically by Leon.
“These facilities are a reference within the company itself”, stressed Mañueco, who stressed that it is an “intelligent, modern and robotic logistics block, at the height of what Mercadona is, a leading company in the sector”. .
Support to local producers
The Chairman of the Board has assessed that Mercadona employs 4,300 people in Castilla y León and has praised its commitment to local producers with more than 2,100 million in purchases from Community suppliers over the last year.
He has also valued the “high social commitment” of the company as reflected in the donation of 1,600 tons of food donated to social organizations in the Community.
Mañueco guarantees public-private support
“All these data show Mercadona’s commitment to employment and the wealth of Castilla y León, which is unequivocal,” said Mañueco, who has guaranteed the company that the Board “will always be at its side in the necessary collaboration public-private”.
He added that the Board supports all companies that want to settle and grow in Castilla y León with the transfer of industrial land at a low price, direct aid or commitment to internationalization.
“Low taxation also makes our land attractive and always with the commitment to stability and the generation of trust, which is something that is highly valued by the business sector,” added the regional president, who pointed out that “an example of all this” is the industrial estate of Villadangos del Páramo.
“The bet is that it will be a reference polygon in the peninsular northwest with its 400 hectares when its expansion is completed with an investment of 36 million,” he declared.
The president has advanced that the expansion will allow the creation of some two thousand new jobs in the coming years and the Villadangos industrial estate will become “the largest logistics platform in the northwest of the Iberian Peninsula”.
A “reference” in the polygon
In this sense, he thanked Mercadona for being one of the first companies to bet on Villadangos, which has extended the number of companies that have settled in it to make it a reference.
“With the expansion of the León technology park, this province will consolidate itself as one of the industrial engines of the Community”, the president has settled.
Mercadona closed the 2022 financial year with a purchase volume in Castilla y León that reached 2,108 million euros, a figure that represents an increase of 18% compared to the previous financial year and ended the financial year with the hiring of 100 new workers, with a workforce of 4,292 people.
As of today, the firm has 66 supermarkets in the community, 50 of which already have the new efficient store model.
