Toledo (EFE).- The Socialist Party of Castilla-La Mancha has offered the PP a pact on Tuesday to shield equality policies, after the municipalities governed by PP and Vox are suppressing the councils of this area.
This has been put on the table by the regional deputy of the PSOE Charo García Saco at a press conference in Toledo, in which she has indicated that, despite the fact that the PP did not respect its own proposal to govern the list with the most votes and ” He has preferred to govern at any price”, the Socialists offer him a pact in the town halls to guarantee equality policies.
García Saco has said it “loud and clear” so that later the PP does not go with “half measures”.
“There is no need to give in to pressure from Vox to suppress the Equality departments or withdraw LGTBI flags because it represents a setback in rights,” he warned.
In this sense, the socialist deputy stressed that Castilla-La Mancha has been a “pioneer” in equality laws that protect women.
In addition, he recalled that both the Law for a society free of gender violence in 2018 and the LGTBI Law in 2022 were approved unanimously in the regional courts.
The PSOE lends its “free votes” so that they continue with the councils of Equality
For this reason, it has had an impact on telling the PP that “when the extreme right demands the suppression of the Equality departments, the PSOE lends them their votes for free so that rights are not suppressed and there is no cutback in freedoms.”
It has also offered to “put a foot on the wall to this barbarity that is happening in the municipalities of the region.”
“If the PP gives in to this setback in women’s rights and equality, it is because it wants to, not because it has no other option,” he remarked.
In addition, García Saco has defended that the departments of Equality manage programs aimed at combating violence against women and programs that protect victims and their children.
They also carry programs that promote conciliation or programs that help women to find a job or make their inequality visible in today’s society.
For the socialist deputy, they are “fundamental” councilors to “advance in a fairer and more democratic society”, he concluded.
The Torrijos City Council removes the LGTBI flag from its facade
On the other hand, the new government of Torrijos (Toledo), headed by the PP and agreed with Vox, has removed the rainbow flag from the facade of the City Hall on the eve of the celebration of Pride week 2023, according to a complaint by the LGTBtorrijos collective.
In a statement, the association has expressed its deep “indignation and rejection” at an action that, in its words, represents “a step back” in the fight for the rights and inclusion of the LGTBI community.
Removing the emblem of this group sends a “discouraging and discriminatory” message to the entire community by “denying” the importance of the struggle and the challenges it faces, criticizes LGTBtorrijos.
“It is a symbolic act that fuels hatred, discrimination and prejudice towards the LGTBI community, and that can have a negative impact on the lives of many people,” he recalls.
By displaying the flag, the collective has an impact, demonstrating the town’s commitment to equal rights and respect for the sexual orientation and gender identity of all the people who make it up, as well as for their families, friends and allies .
