Luis Ortega I 20 (EFE).- Andalusia is currently at the top of the starting grid to be the engine of future green mobility not only in Europe, with leadership in the production and distribution of hydrogen, but also throughout the world as a center of debate and initiatives that should change the course of the automotive industry in the next 25 years.
This has been stated in the declaration of the MOW Forum Andalucía released in Córdoba. Within the framework of the annual meeting of the General Assembly of the International Automobile Federation (FIA). And that includes the impressions and objectives set at the meeting of this forum last November in Seville.
The forum is an international meeting point that brought together the most accredited voices in Seville. To anticipate the immediate future of the mobility sector and the European automotive industry in the next 25 years. And whose conclusions are revealed in the Cordovan capital.
Andalusia, the best place to produce hydrogen
Then, authorities such as Cristina Lobillo, director of Energy Policy of the European Commission, assured that “renewable hydrogen, which is not yet competitive, is a priority for the future.” While Pierre-Yves Sachet, director of Mobility and New Commerce at Cepsa, anticipated that Andalusia “is the best place in the world to produce useful hydrogen for mobility.”
“The autonomy of a vehicle is something that is radically increased with the use of hydrogen,” said José Muñoz, Hyundai Motor World COO. While “in the diversity of sustainable energies, lies the key to the present and future of mobility”, stated Gerald Killmann, vice president of R&D at Toyota Europe.
The declaration of intent was closed by Carmelo Ezpelta, organizer of the MGP World Championship and CEO of Dorna Sports. Who assured that in 2027 the Moto GP World Championship “will be 100% non-polluting”. A bet that was seconded by Felipe Calderón, president of the FIA Sustainability Commission. Who announced that “before 2026, Formula 1 will be with ecofuel liquid fuels”.
Mobility, a citizen’s right
With these wickers, in its “Seville manifesto”, the Mow Forum Andalucía establishes that the energy transition and decarbonisation objectives should not “cause a brake on investment”. Since mobility is a “right and a central element in the life of citizens”. So the change “will only take place if there is a real demand from consumers.”
In addition, electrification is a “great ally to achieve decarbonization goals.” Although the electric vehicle “is not the only formula”. And achieving the decarbonization objectives set for 2050 “will only be possible if the diversity of technologies that truly contribute to reducing emissions is assumed.”
Likewise, the declaration highlights that the new mobility model should not “penalize or discriminate against private vehicles.” While the renewal of the fleet of vehicles “will only be viable if a reasonable energy mix is achieved”.
This process of change is “complex, expensive and with very relevant externalities”. Therefore, “excessively complex legislation can generate an adverse effect and impede progress,” the statement highlights. That warns that this “causes uncertainty for the industry and the consumer.”
Europe’s first green hydrogen corridor
“The mobility sector needs support to undertake its transformation without losing competitiveness and being a catalyst for true social change”, while it “has to be carried out with all the agents involved” to “join efforts” before the ” a challenge so complex that it affects the whole of society”, concludes the statement.
And at this point, Andalusia is already in the best position to become the world center of this transformation towards green mobility. In fact, last week the same kings of Spain, Felipe VI, and the Netherlands, Guillermo Alejandro, supported the project to create the first green hydrogen corridor in Europe, between the south, the port of Algeciras, and the north, that of Rotterdam. .
It will be a milestone for the decarbonization of the continent and to achieve its energy independence, of which Andalusia will be the fundamental axis, not only in the generation and distribution of new alternative energy, but also as a world center of ideas and debate forums such as the MOW Forum. Andalusia, which will have its next stop in Malaga in 2024. EFE
