The media are following the trial because of some television screens installed in another room, where, according to the Mediazona portal, the “sound is absolutely horrifying.”
Along with the opponent, in the dock is Daniel Jolodni, former technical director of the Navalni LIVE channel on YouTube, who could be sentenced to 15 years in prison.
During his daily press conference, the spokesman for the Russian Presidency, Dmitri Peskov, was asked if the Kremlin is following the process against Navalni, to which he responded with a resounding “No.”
The trial is being held in prison No. 6 in the Vladimir region, where Navalni has been held since June 2022.
The opponent’s parents have traveled to the jail to attend the process without being allowed to enter the courtroom so far.
Accused of financing extremist actions
A few days ago, Navalni himself denounced that the prison officials had not allowed him to familiarize himself with the materials of the case, since in the punishment cell in which he was found they only allowed him to have one of the 196 volumes of the accusation.
According to the Mediazona portal, the Russian opponent is accused of financing and instigating extremist actions and of creating an organization, alluding to the banned Anti-Corruption Fund (FBK), which violated the rights of citizens.
In addition, charges have been filed for involving minors in dangerous actions, in reference to unauthorized opposition demonstrations.
Navalni has condemned on his social networks the “criminal war” launched in Ukraine by President Vladimir Putin, whom he accused of sending hundreds of thousands of Russians “to the slaughterhouse”.
The Justice rejected in November 2022 an appeal by Navalni’s lawyers and confirmed the eight-year prison sentence that was imposed on him for fraud and contempt.
