Colindres/Santander (EFE) The Civil Guard has arrested four people on suspicion of beating a man with iron bars in the parking lot of a supermarket in the Cantabrian town of Laredo.
A witness recorded a video of the beating, which has gone viral on social media.
The images show how several people beat with bars and kick a man, lying on the ground in a pool of blood.
The detainees are three men and a woman, two of them 28 years old, and the other two 52 and 56. They have been arrested in Laredo and in the nearby town of Cicero, sources from the Civil Guard have informed EFE.
The Civil Guard arrested two of the men and the woman yesterday and today, Monday, there was the fourth arrest for this attack.
I wasn’t watching
According to the Civil Guard, the 63-year-old victim “was not carrying out any work activity” at the time of the event.
This has been clarified in a statement after it was spread on social networks that he was a security guard at the supermarket where the events took place, in the La Pesquera neighborhood.
The attack occurred for “personal reasons”, according to the same sources. The victim is admitted to the Valdecilla Hospital in Santander “with a reserved prognosis”.
The Civil Guard received a notice at 2:10 p.m. warning of the attack, in which “metal bars used to set up street vendors” were used.
When several patrols arrived at the scene, they found the man lying on the ground. He was already being treated by health personnel, who at first transferred him to the Laredo Hospital, which referred him to Valdecilla.
provisional prison
The Court of First Instance and Instruction number 2 of Laredo has decreed provisional detention, communicated and without bail, for the three men arrested.
The woman, who has been summoned to testify this Monday, is on provisional release with the obligation to appear weekly in court.
As indicated by judicial sources, this morning the detainees for these events have been brought before the courts.
The judge has opened preliminary proceedings for a crime of injury with a dangerous instrument, punishable by up to five years in prison.
In his order, he indicates that there are “well-founded suspicions” that the three men, “by mutual agreement and acting jointly”, “with the intention of undermining the physical integrity” of the victim, gave him “blows all over his body, with bars metal more than one meter in length while on the ground.
The man presents, according to the judge’s order, “various incised wounds at the level of the scalp and face, along with incised-blunt wounds on the left arm, right hand and arm, and both legs,” according to the Superior Court of Justice. from Cantabria.
