Madrid (EFE).- Beer consumption in Spain stood at 58 liters per capita in 2022, which represents an increase of 8 liters compared to the previous year, according to the latest Socioeconomic Report on the Beer Sector in Spain presented this Monday by the country’s brewers association.
This is the highest level of consumption in the last four years, in which it remained between 50 and 52 liters per capita, and close to half of the people who drank beer in 2022 did so at least twice a week.
Cerveceros de España has indicated that it is a “moderate consumption” that responds to “Mediterranean consumption patterns”, and that it is still well below other countries of the European Union.
In this sense, the association has highlighted that in more than 90% of the occasions consumption was associated with moments of food intake and that 94% of consumption outside the home occurred in a social context, being the most consumed cold drink in hospitality.
In addition, it points out that almost 13% of the beer consumed by Spaniards is non-alcoholic, according to data from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA), the place where the presentation of the report took place with the participation of the Secretary of Agriculture and Food, Fernando Miranda; the general director of Cerveceros de España, Jacobo Olalla; and the president of the Hospitality of Spain employers, José Luis Yzuel.
In global terms, apparent consumption (sum of production and imports, not counting exports) amounted to 42.3 million hectoliters in 2022, 5.7% more than the 40.04 million hectoliters in 2021 and the highest number of the one reported by the association in the last 11 years.
