Santa Cruz de La Palma (EFE).- Asier Antona has taken office as mayor of Santa Cruz de La Palma this Saturday after the celebration of the extraordinary plenary session for the constitution of the new local Corporation, elected after the last municipal elections of May 28.
The Popular Party candidate has been elected as the new councilor of the capital of La Palma with the support of the seven councilors of his group and the four votes in favor of the Canary Islands Coalition, thus obtaining an absolute majority to co-govern in coalition during the legislature, in which Tony Acosta (CC) will become the first deputy mayor.
After receiving the city’s command baton, Asier Antona has invited the population and the rest of the councilors to “look to the future with optimism to turn differences into consensus and improve the city”, and has requested “the commitment of the Corporation, the socioeconomic agents and also the residents of the capital of La Palma”.
As for the mandate that is now beginning, Antona has indicated that “as of this Saturday there will not be an agreement between two political forces but an agreement between a government team.”
The agreement grants the popular, in addition to the Mayor’s Office, the areas of Police, Traffic and Citizen Security; Works, Public Services and Infrastructures; Education; Coordination of Government Areas, Strategic Projects and Beaches; Sports and Youth; Heritage, Planning and Tourism; Urbanism, Housing and Transport; Local Development, Environment and Trade; Market and Crafts.
CC is responsible for the first Tenure of Mayor, which will be occupied by Tony Acosta, and the areas of Social Welfare and Equal Opportunities; Treasury, Accounts and Contracting; Consumption and Health; Cemetery; New technologies; Parties; Culture and Internal Regime. EFE
