Barcelona (EFE) who was born to face Xavier Trias in 2015 ends his term making him mayor”.
In statements to EFE, Bonet has assured that “it would not be understood that Ada Colau, who was born politically in 2015 to confront Mayor Trias, ends her term making it possible with her votes for Trias to return to the City Council as the new mayor. It would not be understood that being able to have a socialist mayor, the option of the commons is that this city has a mayor of Junts”.
With 24 hours to go before the constitution plenary session, the also acting deputy mayor has thus asked Barcelona En Comú to reconsider its position of not giving its votes to the socialist candidate and has insisted on a pact between the three left-wing forces of the consistory ( BComú, PSC and ERC).
“There are only two options: either mayor Xavier Trias or mayor Jaume Collboni. A Junts mayor or a socialist mayor”, Bonet underlined.
The socialist has described as “essential” and “determinant” the position of Bcomú, which has 9 councilors -with which the socialists should find 2 more to invest their candidate- and has assured that “if your vote is not for Jaume Collboni, what they will be doing is mayor to Xavier Trias”.
Bonet recalled that in 2015 and 2019 the PSC facilitated the investiture of Ada Colau as mayor and has pointed out to the comunes that “if tomorrow they do not make it possible for Jaume Collboni to become mayor, what they will be is preferring a Junts mayor to a socialist mayor.
“We ask Ada Colau’s party to think about Barcelona and stop thinking about the interests of her party. If Barcelona does not have a progressive mayor tomorrow, it will be the responsibility of the Comuns. The citizens know perfectly well who is preventing Barcelona from having a progressive mayor. We cannot understand this lack of generosity from Ada Colau. There is still time to make it possible”, Bonet reasoned.
Regarding the progress of the negotiations, Bonet has assured that they have continued to speak with the commons and also with ERC, the latter formation that both privately and publicly have told them that they want a pro-independence front in the Barcelona City Council. EFE.
The Socialists have also sent a clear message to the PP: “It would not be understood that they would make it easier for Spain’s second city to fall into the hands of a pro-independence front and Puigdemont’s party.”
