Madrid (EFE).- After 20 years of career, about to start a new tour in large venues throughout the country and with an unpublished studio album that will be released in 2023, David Bisbal assures that he feels “alive” and in love with his profession despite the sacrifices inherent to it.
“I consider it practically an elite sport, but I also like the challenge of always trying to be one hundred percent,” he told EFE before commitments that will take him to Calviá (Mallorca) this Saturday and to the City on June 24. of Arts and Sciences in Valencia, among other points, ending on December 6 at the Wizink Center in Madrid.
ASK: After 20 years of doing this, hasn’t there ever been a time when it became a routine?
ANSWER: It is rather a very hard job, where responsibility and discipline play a fundamental role. To be happy you have to organize yourself very well at the family level and form an extraordinary team. In addition, music is continually being renewed beyond what is heard on the radio with another less conventional one that makes you learn a lot in extraordinary projects such as philharmonic concerts.
ASK: During the anniversary tour, however, you did confess that you had often struggled with music and voice problems during these 20 years…
ANSWER: The music and especially the repertoire that I have is very demanding, with songs that use the entire vocal range, sometimes even exceeding my limits. It’s like telling a soccer player to run as long as he can without warming up in every game.
ASK: And how is that going?
ANSWER: It requires a lot of preparation, that you can’t get sick, that’s why I consider my profession as if it were a sport, practically an elite sport, but I like that challenge of being one hundred percent, because people also expect that of you.
Bisbal: I miss being able to relax a bit
ASK: Have you ever missed more party nights where you can forget about responsibilities?
ANSWER: Yes, I miss being able to relax a bit and forget that in three days I have to sing. But precisely that effort means that, when the time comes to act, you enjoy a lot. For me, the moment of partying is when I get on stage and I’m used to throwing the party myself.
ASK: Do you understand where your ability to connect with the public and inflame the masses comes from?
ANSWER: In the end I am a normal person, who takes the children to school and does the shopping from time to time.
I think it should be something that people breathe into you. I usually separate what the artist’s personality is from what he does and so I can appreciate his art even if there is something that I don’t like for whatever it is. I like to seize the positive things of each person.
ASK: Any positive example?
ANSWER: My partner Antonio Banderas. From the first moment you scan that person, you automatically say: ‘I want to be Antonio’. And that has happened to me with few people.
ASK: Could it be that one of David Bisbal’s connection secrets with the public is that they feel close to him, which is why he has become a source of memes, such as the recent one: ‘Hello, how are the machines’?
ANSWER: I don’t know how many times I have repeated that grace in all my life, since I left Almería, and this makes you think how one day something as natural as greeting some followers goes viral. Well, you never know, therefore, you have to live naturally.
The eighth album this year
ASK: For when the eighth studio album, which promised for 2022?
ANSWER: For this year, I think that during the tour we are also going to do something completely different, which is to release some songs ahead of time. This same weekend in Mallorca I will sing ‘Ay Ay Ay’, the next one to come out, which is a bachata, the most Latin song on the record.
ASK: And what will the rest of the record be like?
ANSWER: It will be entitled ‘I feel alive’, like the tour, and it has a very eighties pop trend like ‘Chess’ and with some ballads that I haven’t had on an album for a long time.
ASK: Will there be a tour of Latin America soon?
ANSWER: At the end of 2023 we already have wonderful dates in the Southern Cone of Latin America: Argentina, Chile, Montevideo… And from there we are going to make the entire Latin tour, surely through Central America to Mexico again.
ASK: More nearby projects?
ANSWER: A lot, like the DVD of the 20th anniversary concert that is about to come out, then the documentary by Alexis Morante summarizing these 20 years. There is the release of the album and more television projects, as well as other musical projects that may be less conventional.
ASK: “Operación Triunfo” will return shortly with Chenoa as presenter. Do you share that in these 20 years the consideration of the artists that come from there has changed a lot?
ANSWER: The first “Operación Triunfo” was basically a ‘let’s see what happens’ with these children, if they deserve the recognition of the industry or not. It’s not like then, it’s not that extreme harshness, now trust is a slightly open door. At first it wasn’t even ajar. There was a very powerful refusal, which I also liked, because they were right to have a doubt and because you have to find trust and respect by working.
