Mexico City (EFE) for the mishandling of classified documents.
“There it is polarized. The media, television networks, against Trump, in favor of the Democrats, aligned. And another media block in favor of the Republican Party, ”he asserted during his morning press conference.
The Mexican ruler thus referred to the news about the beginning of the judicial process against the ex-president that transpired last Tuesday in Miami, Florida.
López Obrador recalled that Trump was brought to trial for “alleged or alleged” abuse “of a lady”, in reference to the porn actress Stormy Daniels.
“And then (they accused him of) another and another (crime), and one reads the report of those who are against former President Trump and says: sentenced or guilty of 37 crimes,” he commented.
Criticism for media coverage
The president maintained that the headlines implied that the former US president was already in jail, when in fact he is not yet in jail.
“He went to lunch or dinner at a restaurant in Florida,” he said.
The Mexican president affirmed that this type of information in the United States is due to the electoral political season and therefore “the media manipulates a lot, more than normal.”
López Obrador has defended Trump on other occasions, pointing out last April that the indictment in the Stormy Daniels case was motivated by “political and electoral purposes.”
The mess facing Trump
Trump is being investigated for his alleged involvement in the assault on the Capitol on January 6, 2021 while Joe Biden’s victory in the presidential elections of the previous November was ratified and for the theft of classified White House documents after leaving power.
For this last case, 37 charges are charged.
Trump, who appeared before the Court in Miami last Tuesday, thus became the first US president or former president to face federal indictment.
That same Tuesday night, Trump promised that if he wins the 2024 presidential election, he will appoint a special prosecutor to investigate Biden, whom he defined as “the most corrupt president in the history of the United States.”
