Teruel, Jun 15 (EFE).- The XXXIX edition of the Baja España-Aragón, which will be held on July 21 and 22 in Teruel, will have as its main novelty the participation for the first time of electric cars in the test.
This was confirmed during the presentation of the race by the head of the organizing company, Octagón S2, Xavier Bartrolí, who announced that the race will have “top-of-the-line electric cars” this year, which means “a great experience for all which implies adapting regulations of this type of tests to electric cars”.
Another novelty is the recovery of the prologue stage for cars, which will be held on the morning of Friday the 21st, “since last year it could only be done for motorcycles,” Bartolí recalled.
This Spain-Aragon Baja will have a shorter duration, going from three to two stages, because the general elections will be held on Sunday, July 23.
Although registration has not yet been closed, the organization of the event estimates that it will be a “record” edition with more than 300 participating teams, which will start at the Teruel Palace of Exhibitions and Congresses.
The test will cover some 800 kilometers of the Turolense province, 600 of them timed, in which it will pass through 32 municipalities of the Comunidad de Teruel, Jiloca and Sierra de Albarracín regions, although as usual, the itinerary of the two stages will not be will reveal until a few hours before the start of the test.
Nor can the list of participants be revealed until the registration period ends, although Xavier Bartrolí stated: “We are going to have the best pilots in the world.”
Bartrolí explained that there is a “magnificent fit” between the orography and the quality of the roads on which the test is held and indicated that the conditions of the roads, “where you can run a lot and almost nothing ever happens”, makes More and more professional teams are participating in the ‘Baja’ to test their vehicles.
The person in charge of Octagón S2 pointed out that some 500 people will work during the event to guarantee the safety of the fans on the roads where the vehicles pass.
He also confirmed that 50 direct jobs will be created in the organization of the test, “plus indirect ones derived from the hotel and accommodation industry.”
The XXXIX edition of the Baja España-Aragón will once again be the only Spanish test scoring for the FIA World Cup of Cross Country Bajas, and will be included in the calendar of the FIM World Cup of Bajas for motorcycles and also in the Championship of Spain of all-terrain rallies.
The Baja España Aragón 2023 will begin the activity in the ‘paddock’ from Wednesday, July 19.
The acting vice president of the Government of Aragon, Arturo Aliaga, participated in the presentation, who stressed that this competition “has earned a space of excellence” within this type of event and estimated the economic return for the city at “more than 18 million of euros”.
The acting mayoress of Teruel, Emma Buj, announced that “for at least the next four years, Teruel will continue to invest in Baja España-Aragón”.
