Oviedo (EFE).- The Citizen Council of Podemos Asturies has given the go-ahead, with 76 percent of the votes, for the negotiating commission for the investiture to be made up of the interim coordinator, Rafael Palacios, and the Secretary of Organization , Olaya Suárez, together with the elected deputy Covadonga Tomé.
In a statement, the leadership of the purple formation, which in recent months has maintained a confrontation with the critical sector headed by Tomé, has stressed that the decision has been made democratically in a consultation.
“The political management body of Podemos Asturies, in the exercise of its functions and through democratic means, has entrusted these three people with the ability to reach the pertinent agreements to invest a government of progress in Asturies in which our ideas are reflected. commitments with the Asturian citizenry”, he underlined in said statement.
Tomé asks to designate a new coordinator
Despite this, Tomé announced yesterday the appointment of his own negotiating team to face the talks with the PSOE regarding the investiture process, at the same time that he reiterated his demand for a Citizen Assembly to designate a new regional coordinator in the purple formation .
In this team, Tomé has incorporated the numbers two and three on the list in the regional elections on May 28, Xune Elipe and Laura Tuero, respectively.
This decision responds, according to the critical sector led by Tomé, to the demand formulated by the militants who participated in an ‘Open Assembly’ on June 7 in which several dozen militants participated to face a negotiating process, that of the investiture and the subsequent formation of the Government, which the party leadership also claims to lead.
According to the sector that supports the only deputy of Podemos, this meeting also resulted in the demand to convene a Citizen Assembly “that designates a new coordinator” since the statutes of Podemos do not recognize the figure of an interim coordinator, “position that Rafael Palacios has occupied for months and that represents a democratic anomaly”.
In his opinion, holding this Assembly “is increasingly urgent, not only because many voices join in but, above all, because they show their perplexity at the fact that an interim coordinator – a position to which Palacios agreed due to medical leave of the former national deputy Sofía Castañón- intends to be in charge at these key moments”.
