Madrid, (EFE).- Along with her collaborations with Madonna or Rosalía, Tokischa has become known in the world of music for her explicitly sexual lyrics in which she presents this aspect of humanity as an element of female empowerment, but, according to what he told EFE, he is far from conceiving it as something free.
“Sex for me is something very intimate and special. I’m at a stage in life where I have a certain maturity and I only share that energy with the person I really love. The stage of going around sharing it with others is already behind us ”, he affirms in Madrid after his visit to the Primavera Sound festival in the capital and before resuming his “Popola Presidente ” tour to other parts of Spain.
This Dominican artist who acknowledged having worked as a sex worker and who even opened a profile with explicit content on a well-known internet platform adds “having now understood the idea that this act for which we are all born is super delicate, a moment of love and trustworthy”.
“Women have had to fight a lot for their freedom”
That does not mean, he adds, that his lyrics will become more restrained. “I am the owner of this body, of this power that one has and of that freedom, because the woman has had to fight a lot for her freedom,” she points out.
This way of thinking has artistically united her with “other women who express what they want freely” such as Bad Gyal, with whom she will probably release “Chulo Remix” this month, a remix of the single originally released by the Catalan artist and re-recorded as a collaboration It could already be heard last weekend at Primavera Sound Madrid.
“I loved the song since I heard it, I asked him when he was going to release the video and then he invited me to do the remix, so I was delighted to get on it,” he says about the simple origin of this musical duo.
It has been a long road “forming and finding” since as a child, crazy about dance and theater, she began to write her own songs and met who is her manager today. “She had all that art and a big dream, but she had no education and no direction,” she recalls.
His first song was “Pícala”
It was in 2018 when Tokischa Altagracia Peralta (San Felipe de Puerto Plata, 1996) released his first song, “Pícala”, and progressively began to gain notoriety and attract the attention of more and more important figures, such as J Balvin or Rosalía, with the who first recorded “La Combi Versace” for the acclaimed album “Motomami” (2022).
It went so well that they ended up doing another song together that had been published before, “Linda”, which has popularized colloquial terms such as “teteo”, “chucky” or “to be rulin”, in addition to verses like “girlfriends who kiss are the best company” that arose from the joint talent of both artists.
“It has been a very special experience because she is a great artist. I have a lot of admiration for how she works and creates. It was a very beautiful moment and that is why the song was so successful, because it was created with love and passion for art”, Tokischa highlights.
The Spaniard has become not only a collaborator, but also a friend with whom she maintains fluid contact, as happened after she met Madonna and that the “queen of pop” asked her to re-record her iconic song “Hung” with her. up”.
“I was in shock, because he is a super icon. Then I found out that he is a sweet and super fun person, ”he points out.
Millions of reproductions
With a good handful of released songs that add up to millions of reproductions, however, for the moment the release of his first album is resisting.
“A record is a part of one’s life, a compilation of ideas, moments and energy. Before, when I started making music, I didn’t have money and now what I don’t have is time, but I do have ideas, concepts and songs”, he explains, before saying that “it’s a long way to go” to see that first LP become a reality.
As part of his “Popola Presidente”, on June 15 he will be in Santiago de Compostela at the O Son Do Camino Festival, on the 24th of that month at the Bombastic Festival in Gran Canaria, on the 30th at the Puro Latino Fest in Seville and on July 1 in the La Rioja town of Calahorra, as part of the Holika Festival.
