Madrid (EFE).- The Council of Ministers is studying this Tuesday the appointment of the former State Attorney General Dolores Delgado as the new prosecutor of the Democratic Memory Chamber at the proposal of her successor, Álvaro García Ortiz, and under the criticism of a good part of the prosecutor’s career, who see their appointment as incompatible.
Executive sources have confirmed to EFE that the Minister of Justice, Pilar Llop, has finally agreed to submit to the Council of Ministers the appointment proposal made by the State Attorney General, Álvaro García Ortiz.
The Association of Prosecutors, the majority in the race and of a conservative nature, asked Llop yesterday by letter not to raise the proposal or, if he did, to forward his request, seeing the appointment of Delgado as “inadmissible” and considering that it is null and void and incurs in a cause of incompatibility because his “sentimental partner”, former judge Baltasar Garzón, runs a foundation dedicated to human rights matters that will be the subject of this new Prosecutor’s Office.
An appointment with many doubts
After receiving the letter, Pilar Llop requested a report from the State Attorney’s Office to see if she could prevent or paralyze the processing of a proposal from the State Attorney General on a discretionary appointment, as El Español has advanced and the sources confirm to EFE. consulted.
The State Attorney General decided to propose Delgado after the fiscal council held last week, in which only four of the twelve members supported the appointment. One progressive member supported another candidate, while the six members of the AF and one of the Professional and Independent Association of Prosecutors (APIF), very critical of the proposal, refused to intervene in the debate and vote.
When endorsed by the Council of Ministers, Delgado, former Minister of Justice and former State Attorney General, will leave the head of the Military Robe Prosecutor’s Office of the Supreme Court for the Human Rights and Democratic Memory Chamber Prosecutor’s Office.
