Madrid (EFE).- The National Institute of Statistics (INE) has confirmed this Tuesday that the consumer price index (CPI) stood at 3.2% year-on-year in May, nine tenths lower than the rate registered in April, due to lower fuel prices and lower increases in food and non-alcoholic beverages.
Of the nine tenths of decrease in the general rate of inflation, six tenths have been the result of the 3.7% drop in the transport group due to the decrease in fuel, while another two tenths have been caused by the group of food, whose rise moderated to 12% year-on-year, almost one point less than the previous month.
Food inflation has fallen back to the level of a year ago thanks to the drop in the price of milk, cheese and eggs, as well as the lower price of fish and shellfish, and the stability of bread and cereals.
