Logroño, (EFE).- The people of Logroño have complied this Monday with the vote of San Bernabé by going to taste some 1,200 portions of stewed bull prepared by the Federation of Peñas de Logroño.
The president of this entity, Daniel Barrón, who has just taken office, has detailed to EFE that 180 kilos of meat have been used, cooked over low heat with 80 kilos of vegetables, olive oil, white wine and spices. .
The sun and good temperatures have encouraged hundreds of people from Logroño to attend this gastronomic tasting organized on Calle Portales on the last day of the festivities in honor of San Bernabé, patron saint of the city.
These festivities commemorate the triumph of the city of Logroño after the siege by the French army in 1521, which ended on June 11, the feast of San Bernabé.
For this reason, the capital of La Rioja chose this saint as its patron, and to honor him, the vote was agreed, which includes five actions: celebrate vespers, participate in the procession and the flags of the highest local authority, light lights while the bells ring , organize a heifer celebration and cook a bull.
With this tasting of the stewed bull, the Federation of Peñas has fulfilled the fifth point of the vote, specified Barrón, who stressed that the festivities have passed normally and in a good atmosphere.
In Logroño there are currently nine supporters clubs, which bring together a thousand supporters, but he has pointed out that a generational replacement is currently needed.
With a view to the upcoming local festivities in San Mateo, which will be held from September 16 to 22, he has encouraged young people to join one of these clubs “to experience the festivities from within.”
