Logroño, (EFE) the final stretch of the festivities of San Bernabé in 2023.
On the last day of the festival, the granting of the fleurs-de-lys, incorporated into the city’s coat of arms, by Charles V as a reminder of the siege of the French army in 1521, was staged.
Before the placement of this recognition, a symbol of the French monarchy, Carlos V has starred in the triumphant parade at the end of the festivities accompanied by members of the recreation associations Guardia de Santiago, Héroes del Revellín and various volunteers from Logroño.
This parade has had great expectations, since moments before it began many people have gathered on the walls of the Revellín, from where it has started with the beat of a drum, and has traveled a crowded Portales street, passing through the arch of San Bernabé, until concluding in the Plaza de San Bartolomé.
Hundreds of people have accompanied the parade to this square in Logroño, where they have crowded to receive the Emperor Carlos V, among applause and “cheers”, who has gone up to the main stage to, on his behalf, proceed to celebrate the act of granting the fleurs-de-lys, as happened in 1523.
The closing of this theatrical performance has included the staging of three regional dances by the Logroño Dance Group, dressed in the costumes of the time.
