A woman, listed anonymously as Jane Doe in court documents, filed the lawsuit last year in New York, accusing America’s largest bank of profiting from Epstein’s illegal activities and assisting him in his alleged sex trafficking.
JPMorgan: “terrible abuse of Epstein”
The plaintiff said Epstein sexually abused her between 2006 and 2013 and “lent” her out to friends. In addition, she pointed out that Epstein paid her and other victims with cash withdrawn from JPMorgan.
“This settlement is in the best interest of all parties, especially the survivors who were victims of Epstein’s appalling abuse,” the bank said in a press release today.
The US Virgin Islands also sued JPMorgan late last year, alleging that the bank facilitated Epstein’s alleged trafficking and sexual abuse by allowing the deceased to remain a customer and helping him send money to his victims. That case is still pending.
JPMorgan worked with Epstein after the allegations
The tycoon died in a federal prison in New York in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges; then, the coroners ruled it a suicide.
Epstein became a JPMorgan client in the late 1990s and, according to The Wall Street Journal, the businessman turned to Deutsche Bank after JPMorgan closed his accounts in 2013.
Both banks worked with Epstein after he was accused of child molestation and pleaded guilty in a Florida state court in 2008 to soliciting the prostitution of a minor.
Last month, Deutsche Bank agreed to pay 75 million dollars (69,677,184 euros) to settle a lawsuit over its relationship with Epstein.
