Jerez de la Frontera (Cádiz), (EFE) Government of Castilla y León to relax the control requirements for bovine tuberculosis.
Planas warns that the EU sees the changes as “absolutely wrong”
In statements to journalists after the closure of the 44th Congress of Vine and Wine in the province of Cádiz, he stressed that the EU authorities consider the changes made by Castilla y León to the regulations “absolutely wrong”.
The minister has wondered what would have happened if a government of the PP and Vox had had to face the pandemic, when “very forceful and serious measures had to be taken to save lives.”
In his opinion, now it is about “not spoiling what we are doing from the livestock sector”.
Rigor in the control of bovine tuberculosis to maintain the reputation
He recalled that Spain exports 70,000 million euros every year thanks to “the reputation and quality assurance” of its agri-food production.
In this line, he has insisted that “a strict and rigorous position must be maintained” in defense of animal health standards.
CyL’s decision puts the animal health of other communities and the EU “at risk”
According to Planas, the measure adopted by the Government of Castilla y León puts at risk “not only the animal health of the provinces of the autonomous community, but also of other communities in Spain and territories of the European Union.”
The minister has been “surprised” that this initiative in Castilla y León has not had “a reaction” from the Junta de Andalucía because it has put “the Andalusian cattle herd” at risk.
Questioned about the boycott in Germany of the Huelva strawberry, Planas insisted that the Government’s position is “of unreserved support for the Huelva red fruit sector”.
He has also added that he sees the intention “on the part of the Popular Party and Vox to spread the greatest possible number of hoaxes and falsehoods.”
