La Laguna (Tenerife) (EFE).- Drago Canarias, a project led by former Podemos deputy Alberto Rodríguez, confirmed this Tuesday that it has reached an agreement with Sumar to run together in the general elections on July 23.
Rodríguez, confederal co-spokesperson for Drago Canarias, has highlighted that the agreement has been closed “without exhausting the deadlines, always thinking of the citizenry”, and has appreciated that the negotiations have been carried out “from mutual respect”.
This agreement, which covers the two provincial constituencies, “respects Canarian obedience in decision-making,” stressed Rodríguez, who indicated that “predictably” more political forces will form part of it.
“We believe that the news today is that we reached an agreement with a very broad state space in which for the first time the voice of the Canary Islands is respected, Canarian obedience, the autonomy to make decisions, to manage the teams,… And that is historical. We hope that the impulse of this first announcement will help to produce more agreements in the Canary Islands and the State ”, he added.
Rodríguez has also indicated that his formation is “open to dialogue” and does not support the “veto policy”, since he finds that it does not help to “build broad spaces” that “generate illusion and mobilization of the vote.”
“We are announcing a one-on-one bilateral agreement with Sumar and we will see, throughout these days, if there are more political forces that join this agreement and make it broader. Which would be good news for Canarian society and for the possibilities of a government that does not lean to the right as is happening in other institutions”, Rodríguez expressed.
When asked about the possibility of applying for a position in the Congress of Deputies together with Sumar, the co-spokesperson for Drago Canarias explained that this is a matter that Drago will have to “debate collectively” and that they will make a decision based “on the teams that are part of these candidacies”.
