Madrid (EFE) , Antonio Muñoz (Seville) or Óscar Puente (Valladolid).
Socialist sources have confirmed to EFE that in some cases there have already been contacts with these leaders to find out if they are interested in joining the lists of Congress and the Senate for the general elections, brought forward to July 23 after the poor results of the PSOE in the regional and municipal.
Specifically, the PSOE lost in these elections six of the nine regional governments it led (Valencian Community, Extremadura, Aragon, the Balearic Islands, the Canary Islands and La Rioja) and 15 of the 22 provincial capitals where it governed, including Seville and Valladolid.
On the other hand, Ferraz sources have stressed that the lists for the general elections “are made in the provinces” and not from the Federal Executive, so “there are no fingers.”
An “immense” talent
However, these same sources have stressed that “the talent of colleagues who have not revalidated” governments after 28M is “immense” and “having them at the national level would be a luxury.”
The names that sound the most to join the PSOE lists for the general elections are those of the still president of the Balearic Islands, Francina Armengol; that of La Rioja, Concha Andreu; the mayor of Seville, Antonio Muñoz; and the one from Valladolid, Óscar Puente.
In addition, another of the unknowns in the preparation of the lists for the Congress and the Senate is the incorporation of the ministers of the socialist wing of the current Government of Pedro Sánchez.
The only certainty is that the First Vice President and Minister of Economy, Nadia Calviño, will not go on the lists (it was not on those of 2019 either) due to her desire to maintain her character as an independent person by not being affiliated with the PSOE, although the statutes of the party allow the option of incorporating non-militants.
“The commitment that I have with the project has nothing to do with going or not going on the lists. I have never been and I think the commitment is evident. What happens in the future will be decided by the President of the Government, ”he said Wednesday in statements to the media at a meeting of the Cercle d’Economia in Barcelona.
Carmen Calvo would go through Córdoba but not in starting positions
On the other hand, the former vice president of the Government Carmen Calvo, who was number two on the Madrid PSOE list for Congress in the 2019 general elections, is seeking accommodation on the Córdoba lists, according to EFE socialist sources.
These sources acknowledge that it will be very difficult for her to be in starting positions, since most likely the number one in Congress for Córdoba will be the general secretary of the PSOE in that province, Rafaela Crespín, and number two will be a man.
The process of preparing PSOE lists for the next general elections begins with the proposal of candidates in local socialist assemblies, which have until June 6, according to the calendar that the party now manages.
Between June 7 and 8, the PSOE provincial and insular executive commissions will make proposals for complete and orderly candidacies, which will be approved on those dates by the respective committees.
Then, the regional executive commissions have until June 8 to make a report and recommendations on these lists.
The last steps arrive on June 9, with the definitive opinion of the candidacies by the Federal Commission of Lists, and the definitive ratification of the lists on June 10 in the Federal Committee of the PSOE, the party’s highest body between congresses, which will also officially designate Pedro Sánchez as the socialist candidate for the Presidency of the Government.
