Oviedo (EFE).- The general secretary of the PP of Asturias, Álvaro Queipo, has warned today that in these regional elections “the game has not yet finished” because the recount of the emigrant vote can snatch a seat for the constituency from the Socialists oriental, where 934 votes separate them, and thus give the majority to the right-wing bloc in the regional parliament.
The PSOE obtained three deputies with 15,003 votes for the eastern constituency, while the PP obtained the remaining two with 14,069, a difference of 934 votes that the popular ones hope can be compensated when on Friday the emigrant vote that four years ago had a participation of little more than 2 percent although on this occasion the requested vote no longer exists.
In Asturias, the Electoral Census of Absent Residents (CERA) includes 123,201 people and represents 14.7 percent of Asturians entitled to vote in these elections, the highest percentage in the entire country in yesterday’s elections, while In the eastern constituency, 27,618 emigrants have the right to vote, representing 46.9 percent of the census.
A change “desired” by the Asturians
According to Queipo, the 77,000 more votes that the PP obtained yesterday represent “a spectacular increase that gives rise to hope” since the popular ones also trust that they will benefit from the fact that emigrants have been facilitated to participate with the suppression of the requested vote.
“We are 934 votes away in the eastern one from being able to snatch a deputy from the PSOE and, therefore, the sum in Asturias can give to bring about the change that Asturians have waited for and want so much,” he insisted.
In the event that the PP finally seizes that deputy from the Socialists, both formations would have 18 deputies in the regional hemicycle, where IU has three representatives and one Podemos, a sum that would leave them below the absolute majority (23).
With the four deputies that Vox has reached in these elections, twice as many as it had, the only Foro deputy (Adrián Pumares) could be decisive when it comes to forming majorities in the Principality’s General Meeting.
The popular celebrate their municipal results
Queipo has also been “very satisfied” with the result obtained in the municipal elections since they have retained the seven mayoralties they obtained in 2019, to which they will add another three in which they will govern with an absolute majority.
However, he has affirmed that “in all probability” they will be able to assume the local government of another five councils with the “different pacts” that they will begin to negotiate in the next few days with what will be fifteen municipalities in the hands of the PP, more than double the number of the ones he got four years ago.
In addition, he has affirmed that there will be another six local governments, including that of Gijón, in which the popular ones could also have participation and executive capacity, with which the municipal map “changes radically.” EFE
