International Writing (EFE).- The international community has congratulated Recep Tayyip Erdogan on his re-election as president of Turkey and has expressed its willingness to cooperate with the president.
In the second round, with 99.5 of the votes counted, Erdogan obtained 52.1% of the votes while his rival, the Social Democrat Kemal Kiliçdaroglu, obtained 47.9%, according to the Turkish electoral authorities.
In this way, Erdogan consolidates power with his image as a strong leader, despite the economic crisis, and will have a new five-year term at the helm of the Turkish state.
The EU wants to deepen the relationship
The presidents of the European Council and the European Commission, Shawles Michel and Ursula von der Leyen, respectively, congratulated Recep Tayyip Erdogan for being re-elected in the second round of the Turkish presidential elections, and expressed their hope in continuing to “build” and “deepen ” the relationship between the European Union (EU) and Turkey.
“Congratulations Recep Tayyip Erdogan on your re-election as President of Türkiye. I look forward to working with you again to deepen EU-Turkey relations in the years to come,” Michel said overnight on his official Twitter account.
Von der Leyen also expressed on the same social network his congratulations to Erdogan for winning the elections and “expressed his hope in” continuing to build the EU-Turkey relationship.
China trusts Erdogan to boost development
“China expresses its congratulations to President Erdogan on his re-election,” said Foreign Affairs spokeswoman Mao Ning at a press conference today. “We support Turkey taking a development path that suits its national conditions and hope that the country will achieve new achievements in its development under Erdogan’s leadership,” she added.
Mao assured that Beijing attaches “great importance” to its relations with Ankara and that “in recent years, under the guidance of the two heads of state, the two countries have achieved fruitful cooperation in various fields, benefiting both peoples.” .
Putin stresses popular support
For his part, Russian President Vladimir Putin stressed that Erdogan’s re-election is proof of popular support for his policies, in a message posted on the Kremlin website.
He especially stressed Erdogan’s personal contribution to strengthening friendly Russian-Turkish relations and mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields.
“I would like to confirm our readiness to continue our constructive dialogue on current issues on the bilateral, regional and international agenda,” added the Kremlin chief.
America in favor of reinforcing cooperation
From America, the President of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, conveyed to Erdogan his wishes for “success in his functions” and reiterated his desire to “continue promoting the ties of friendship and cooperation between both countries.”
The president of Argentina, Alberto Fernández, asked this Sunday to consolidate the cooperation between his country and Turkey, already existing in areas such as satellites, nuclear medicine and mining.
And Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva congratulated Erdogan on his re-election as head of state and offered him Brazil’s cooperation in the fight for world peace and the fight against hunger. EFE
