Oviedo (EFE).- The former general coordinator of the IU Gaspar Llamazares has been skeptical today about the result for the left of the advance of the general elections to July 23 and has warned: “I don’t know to what extent it will work out; The boldest is not always the smartest.”
In statements to Efe, Llamazares, who was leading a joint candidacy of IU and Más País in the municipal elections in Oviedo that has returned the coalition to the City Council with three of the 27 councilors, has stressed that Pedro Sánchez’s decision “demonstrates the weakness of the parties and the preeminence of personalities in this populist period”.
“Surprised” has assured that he feels after the announcement of the President of the Government while regretting the parties have become “electoral cabinets” and has expressed his doubts that the “silver bullet” of calling the elections right after the possible agreements between PP and Vox in town halls and communities where they add up to the majority.
Facing the general elections on July 23, Llamazares has also pointed out that the confluence between Podemos and Yolanda Díaz’s Sumar platform is not so much a matter of time as the deadlines speed up with the electoral advance but rather responds “to a decision probably already taken.”
“Sumar must continue on its way as we have done in Asturias – where the coalition between IU and Más País has won three seats against one of Podemos – and with an outstretched hand, but without stopping or ciphering everything to a perfect unit when, the same, It has already been decided that it does not exist ”, he added.
The results of IU in Oviedo, above expectations
Yesterday, in his opinion, “a blue tide of the PP” was confirmed that went “beyond the most negative forecast” and in Asturias, the result should lead to a coalition government of PSOE and IU -with 19 and 3 deputies, to one of the absolute majority – given that the investiture in the Principality “does not have difficulties” since the vote against is not contemplated, which allows the candidate with the most support to be elected in the second vote.
At this juncture, the only Podemos deputy in the autonomous Chamber should decide, according to Llamazares, if she gives external support to the Government or if she chooses to be part of the Executive.
At the local level, the three councilors obtained by the IU, at the cost of the departure of Podemos from the corporation, exceeded the expectations of Llamazares, who has advocated seeking consensus, despite the absolute majority of the PP, on certain matters that allow ” make a city” and promote broad and negotiated agreements with other administrations for certain projects.
