Murcia, May 23 (EFE).- The Emergency Coordination Center of the Region of Murcia has dealt with a total of 117 issues related to the heavy rains that affect the community until six in the morning on Tuesday, mostly from Mazarrón and the Campo de Cartagena region, related to water drainage and rescue of trapped vehicles.
According to sources from this body, no victims have been recorded and in a dozen vehicle rescues the drivers, under their responsibility, entered roads previously closed by the municipalities.
Cartagena and Mazarrón have been on red alert since four in the morning due to heavy rainfall, with the forecast of “extreme risk of accumulated precipitation of up to 61 mm in one hour”.
Likewise, the General Directorate of Emergencies of the Autonomous Community has activated at 5:30 p.m. today, for the entire regional territory, level 0 of the Special Civil Protection Plan against the Risk of Floods.
The president of the regional government, Fernando López Miras, announced last night the suspension of teaching activity in universities and all educational centers in fourteen municipalities and the Murcian district of Lobosillo.
