Oviedo (EFE).- The British venture capital fund Bridgepoint has closed an agreement with the Daniel Alonso Group and Siemens Gamesa to acquire the majority of the capital of Windar Renovables, one of the world leaders in the manufacture of towers and structures for wind turbines land and sea.
The executive president of the Asturian company, Orlando Alonso Villarón, will continue in office and will maintain a minority stake in the company once the operation is closed in the second half of the year and which different financial media estimate at more than 600 million euros.
According to the agreement, Siemens Gamesa will also continue to be a “strategic client” in the new phase of Windar, reports the company, the only company in the world with experience in manufacturing all the different types of substructures for the offshore wind industry that are used in the present.
Just yesterday, it closed with Iberdrola the largest order it has received to date for the production of 95 transition pieces for the East Anglia Three offshore wind farm, in United Kingdom waters, and it has a backlog of orders that includes some of the wind farms emblematic offshore wind farms in Europe and the United States.
Offshore wind growth
The momentum experienced by offshore wind power in Europe, America and Asia has favored the growth of the Asturian company in recent years, a circumstance that has been highlighted by Héctor Pérez, a partner of Bridgepoint in Europe, when considering this agreement.
According to Pérez, Windar is at the forefront of renewable energy development, maintains a leadership position in the manufacture of wind towers and structures, and is ideally positioned to continue meeting the growing demand for offshore and onshore wind power.

Founded in 2007 and headquartered in Avilés, Windar Renovables has seven production plants in Spain and another three in Brazil, India and Mexico that serve the five continents. EFE
