Merida (EFE) 2 million to promote the contracting of agricultural insurance and 21 million for a line of financing loans.
The President of the Government of Extremadura, Guillermo Fernández Vara, has explained in a press conference the content of this decree-law approved by the Governing Council, which has exposed the leaders of the agrarian organizations in a meeting held just before the call.
The aid could begin to be paid in a month and a half
The new decree law will be published on Monday and will be validated by the Permanent Deputation of the Assembly of Extremadura. The intention of the regional government, according to Fernández Vara, is that its processing be expedited as much as possible so that the aid can begin to be paid in a month and a half, since there are farms that otherwise “will not be able to endure.”
Of the total budget contemplated, 10 million euros are allocated, as a direct subsidy, to farms of different varieties of wheat, barley, oats and winter cereals, one of the sectors most affected by the current drought situation, in order to offset the losses.
This aid is compatible with those that may come from the national government due to the development of Royal Decree Law 4/2023 and with the compensation that winter cereal farmers will receive for agricultural insurance.
1.5 million euros are allocated to extensive farms of Iberian pigs and horses; one million for the former and 500,000 euros for the latter, direct aid from which a thousand farms could benefit, said the president of Extremadura.
Beekeeping, one of the benefited sectors
Another sector that will receive direct subsidies from the Junta de Extremadura, in addition to those already announced by the ministry, is beekeeping, whose farms will receive 2.7 million euros plus the corresponding amount of aid from the Government of Spain.
In addition, ranchers and ranchers will be able to enjoy a discount on the rates of the livestock guides and the declaration of the censuses. In this way, a 100% discount has been established in the rates of these rates for the provision of veterinary medical services of the Ministry of Agriculture for the years 2023 and 2024.
On the other hand, an increase of 2 million euros is established in the budget destined to the promotion of the contracting of agricultural insurance, an effective tool that guarantees income and maintains the viability of farms, highlighted the president of Extremadura
Finally, the Junta de Extremadura will contribute 21 million euros for a loan financing line that will be signed next Wednesday with financial institutions so that farmers and ranchers can meet the ordinary expenses of the farms.
Vara recalled that the central government will allocate more than 120 million euros to Extremadura to help extensive farms in the region, especially those of cattle, sheep and goats, which represents 34% of aid at the national level.
Asaja Cáceres suspends roadblocks
Agrarian leaders have valued the effort made by Extremadura to put these 37.2 million euros on the table, although they have considered the amount insufficient to deal with the catastrophic situation in the Extremadura countryside due to high temperatures and drought.
After the meeting and the approval of the decree law, Asaja Cáceres has decided to suspend the roadblocks that it had planned for May 18, 23 and 25, while Apag-Extremadura-Asaja now decides in the board of directors whether to maintain or suspend the Demonstration called tomorrow to ask for help for the drought.
