Madrid (EFE).- The spokesperson for EH Bildu in the Congress of Deputies, Mertxe Aizpurua, has assured this Wednesday the “very clear” commitment to peace and coexistence of her party and all its candidates.
To questions from journalists about the inclusion on the EH Bildu lists of 44 convicted of terrorism, Aizpurua stressed that “the commitment to peace and coexistence” must be valued, which means the resignation of seven of them, those convicted of murders of ETA, to collect their minutes as councillors.
With this decision, according to the deputy, the seven candidates have shown that they do not want to “add more pain or damage to the victims.”
Aizpurua has insisted on the “very clear” commitment of his party and all its candidates with the declaration of October 18, 2021, which includes the position of the nationalist left regarding violence and the victims of terrorism.
“We must take steps forward and in that future, in peace and coexistence that Basque society so longs for, is what we are working on and we are going to continue”, he stressed.
Asked if they were wrong to include those convicted of terrorism on the list, she has limited herself to reiterating that they are for a future in peace and coexistence.
“Our commitment is clear, it is clear”, insisted the spokeswoman for EH Bildu, who hopes that the decision of her candidates will be understood “as another step in the construction of that future”.
In his opinion, the controversy over the candidacies is being used to carry out an electoral campaign that “is not going anywhere”, while they are “on other things”.
“We are to protect the rights of the people, we are also working for coexistence, we will continue there,” he has settled.
