Elche (Alicante) (EFE).- With t-shirts with the artist’s face, Spanish flags and to the rhythm of ‘Eaea’, more than 1,500 people in Elche have experienced the passage of their neighbor Blanca Paloma by Eurovision, an appointment that their Countrymen have savored “with pride”, despite the disappointment of the televote and finishing in seventeenth position.
Through two giant screens installed in the center and in the hamlet of El Altet, the residents of Blanca Paloma have enjoyed a performance that has not convinced the televote but that has convinced the jury and, above all, the the more than 1,500 people from Elche who have taken to the streets to celebrate this “historic” day for Elche, as claimed by its mayor, Carlos González.
And it is that around a thousand people have filled the El Toscar de Elche pavilion to encourage and support their countrywoman from a distance and enjoy their song ‘Eaea’, while friends and family have done the same in the Plaza Mayor of El Altet, where the artist was born and grew up and where a totally festive atmosphere has been enjoyed.
Since 7:00 p.m., the music of DJs and the bar services have animated the two stages, which have had great successes in the history of Eurovision, and where children and adults have waved the flags with images of Blanca Paloma.
The youngest have not stopped taking photos in the different ‘photocalls’ set up for the occasion, before uploading them to social networks with #ConBlancaPaloma.
Songs of support for Spain and Blanca Paloma
With the start of the final, the songs of support for Spain and Elche began, and the great moment came with the close-up of Blanca Paloma on the Liverpool Arena stage, at which time everyone stood up and they have chanted the lyrics of ‘Eaea’ waving the banners, which showed a smiling Blanca Paloma.
At the end of the performance, the cheers of the people have been intermingled with the rain of colored paper, which has fallen on the El Toscar pavilion, attended by the mayor of Elche, Carlos González, the president of the Generalitat, Ximo Puig, and the vice president of the Consell, Aitana Mas.
González has assured in statements to EFE TV that this day has been “historic” for the city of Elche, “a really important day because Blanca Paloma has represented Elche and Spain”.
In addition, Blanca Paloma “shows off being an ambassador for the city and the Community”, said the mayor, who has stressed that it was “necessary” that both the district of El Altet and the city could have giant screens to “enjoy ” of the performance of the woman from Elche.
Change of location due to rain forecast
The only negative note, explained González: that the forecast of rain has forced the transfer of the giant screen from the Candalix parking lot, an area that was intended to accommodate more than 5,000 people, to El Toscar, where only a little more could have been of a thousand.
For his part, the President of the Generalitat, Ximo Puig, highlighted the role of ambassador of the Blanca Paloma Community, “since wherever he goes he never forgets where he comes from”, while also underlining the importance that the Benidorm Fest, an idea that the San Remo festival came to see and that he shared with the director of RTVE, he has assured.
“For me, it is a real pride that Europe enjoys a little piece of Elche. I have vibrated and I have literally left my voice”, assured María, very emotional after the performance, which shows, in her opinion, that “without carrying fireworks and nothing pompous, you can captivate the stage with your voice alone”.
