The general secretary of the employers’ association for the electrical appliances sector (FECE), Alfredo Gosálvez de la Macorra, has told EFE that “many stores” in April have increased sales of this type of air conditioning and refrigeration appliances by around a 30 or 40% on the data of the previous months.
And it is that the advance of the heat at the beginning of spring “increases the need to have air conditioning systems in homes that provide cold,” the Association of Air Conditioning Equipment Manufacturers (AFEC) also explains to EFE.
However, more and more homes are taking into account the need for thermal conditioning in two ways: they are looking for devices that provide heat in winter and cold in summer.
“There is a clear trend in the market towards systems that provide both functions, so the installation of equipment driven by the need to combat high temperatures will also serve to support or replace heating systems for upcoming winters,” he explained.
most expensive equipment
In 2022, the air conditioning market in the residential area grew by more than 24% compared to a year earlier and this trend already shows signs that it “maintains” in these first months of 2023, points out the AFEC.
This employer explains that this growth is being possible despite the fact that air conditioning equipment has raised its price due, among other factors, to the tax on fluorinated greenhouse gases promoted by the Government, which taxes new refrigeration facilities, not only for domestic and commercial use, but also those used by the hotel, food, logistics, transport and automotive sectors.
The aforementioned tax is levied on the manufacture and installation of refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pump equipment, as has been criticized by a large part of the sector in recent months.
In the opinion of the AFEC, this tax situation “penalizes the Spanish industry, making it less competitive and affects the cost that SMEs, installation companies and, finally, consumers have to assume”.
More sales in large stores
The multinational Leroy Merlin has announced, regarding the unusually high temperatures in spring, that the demand for and sales of products to combat the heat “have grown exponentially in the last year”.
Specifically, the company highlights that portable air conditioning has experienced a cumulative growth this year of 260%, which is more than tripling the data from the previous year. In portable air conditioners this increase has been 246%; and up to 311% in evaporative coolers.
In the last month alone, when unusually high temperatures have been recorded, the demand to find that coolness at home or indoors has increased sales of all air conditioning products by more than 163%, according to the data provided by Leroy Merlin.
So far this year, the multinational has doubled sales of fixed air conditioners compared to last year, with an increase of up to 119% in demand for “multisplit” models, which are those devices that allow cooling from two to four areas of the home with a single unit and with low electricity consumption.
Another of the large household appliance sales establishments, MediaMarkt, has already started this month a “renovation plan” for air conditioners, both in fixed and portable models.
El Corte Inglés has also advanced its offers for this type of home refrigeration product, with discounts throughout the catalog by taking advantage of, even, the internet week and with some air conditioners already sold out on the web.
The AFEC concludes that there is a lack of qualified technicians for the installation of equipment and warns of the “consequent urgency in channeling” this deficiency in the number of professionals.
Amazing! This blog looks exactly like my old one! It’s on a entirely different subject
but it has pretty much the same page layout and
design. Excellent choice of colors!
