Torrelavega, (EFE).- Eleven international companies in 38 countries will turn the streets of Santillana del Mar into improvised stages for their puppets from June 2 to 4.
“Bisontere” is the festival where these groups of puppeteers will be, who will stage works for all ages and tastes, in the sixteenth edition of this event.
This international contest, which seeks to offer at least one representation of all puppet theater disciplines, will be opened by the Siesta Teatro company from Granada, with a special performance of “Punchinelis” for the students of the Santa Juliana public school.

During the three days the shows “El arriero de los juegos” by the Cantabrians Esfera, an installation of wooden games built by hand and of their own creation; or “Rag & Bon Man”, by the Catalan Xip-Xap Teatre, with a ragpicker driving his truck made of wood and sheet metal through the streets.
Santillana del Mar will also receive “Afro Sound System”, by the Cantabrian company Birloque; “Verses that nest”, by Baychimo Teatro from Zamora; “Mettici il cuore”, by the Italians Nina Theatre; “La Granja”, by the Valladolid Teloncillo Theater; “The Gipsy Marionettist”, by the Italians Rasid Nikolic; and “Ma Solitud”, by the Catalan Guillem Albá.
Along with them will perform the Aragonese from Los Titiriteros de Binefar with their work “Jauja” and the Uruguayans Ángeles de Trapo, with the classic puppet show entitled “Tres historias tres”.
The Vice President of Cantabria, Pablo Zuloaga; the mayor of Santillana del Mar, Ángel Rodríguez; the director of the Altamira Museum, Pilas Fatás; and the director of the festival, Luis del Río, have presented this 16th edition this Wednesday at the Altamira Museum.
All have insisted that it is a “very consolidated and expected by all” activity, as shown by the fact that for some performances the tickets have sold out in less than two hours.
Tickets at 6 euros
They have recalled that the tickets for the performances of this edition will go on sale at noon on May 17, at the price of 6 euros for those shows in venues with limited capacity, since most of the programming will be on the street and it will be possible to watch for free.
Pablo Zuloaga has highlighted that the International Bisontere Puppet Festival “has been changing the cultural scene of Cantabria for 16 years”, thanks to an innovative proposal that also serves as a tourist promotion for the town.
The mayor of Santillana del Mar has highlighted that this edition “recovers its essence again”, such as the street performances, so that this year “more parades will parade than ever” through the different areas of the town.
