Pamplona (EFE).- A dozen media, including Agencia EFE, and nine international cooperation entities have come together to give visibility to severe humanitarian crises that do not have government support or the necessary social attention.
And it is that once the emergency phase is over, in which cooperation, international aid and the media turn to these humanitarian crises, the focus little by little is moving away from them, turning them into practically “forgotten”, a surname that now they want to change making them “unforgettable”.
To achieve this objective, the Fundación Caja Navarra has promoted this initiative that seeks to disseminate and raise awareness of these humanitarian situations in order to generate social awareness that will allow the efforts to raise funds from cooperation entities to be strengthened.
For this, it has the collaboration of the media Agencia EFE, Cadena COPE, Cadena SER, Diario de Navarra, Diario de Noticias, Navarra Capital, Navarra Hoy (ETB in Navarra), Navarra Television, Onda Cero, Pamplona Actual, Radio Nacional and Spanish Television; and the entities EACNUR, Cáritas, Action Against Hunger, Unicef, Red Cross, Uwnra, Madre Courage, Intermon Oxfam and Médicos del Mundo.
According to the UN Global Report on Humanitarian Crises in 2022, an estimated 235 million people around the world were in need of humanitarian aid and protection. Among those affected are 183 million people in need of urgent humanitarian assistance and 52 million forcibly displaced people, including 29.2 million refugees.
In the act in which the project called “Unforgettable” was presented, the three projects supported by Fundación Caja Navarra’s Forgotten Crisis Fund in 2023 were also announced. These are those carried out by Manos Unidas in Gaza and the West Bank, UNICEF in the Central African Republic and EACNUR in Colombia.
The Fundación Caja Navarra’s Forgotten Crisis Fund allocates 1.4% of its budget (200,000 euros in 2023) to forgotten crises.
