Caracas (EFE).- The Venezuelan opponent Tomás Guanipa assures that reaching a political agreement at the dialogue table between anti-Chavistas and the government of Nicolás Maduro in Mexico -stalled since November- “is the only way to achieve economic normalization.”
The former deputy and member of the negotiating delegation grouped in the Unitary Platform, assured, in a statement, that “important agreements” were reached in Mexico, but that when trying to address issues such as politics, human rights and electoral conditions, the Government withdraws from the dialogue.
“When we are going to talk about the political issue, which is human rights, which is the freedom of political prisoners, which is the issue of electoral conditions, which is the only way to achieve economic normalization and improve the quality of lives of Venezuelans, the Maduro government stops,” said Guanipa.
In addition, he reiterated the opposition’s willingness to resume talks, in order to “attend and solve the problems faced by Venezuelans and improve their quality of life.”
“We are not going to stop until there is a process in which there is an agreement to rescue our civil and human, economic and political and electoral rights. The next two years will renew all the positions of popular election in Venezuela and it is a great opportunity for democratization, for change, for the relaunch of a country”, he stated.
Guanipa explained that the international conference on Venezuela, held on April 25 in Colombia, “demonstrated that the world is aware of the serious crisis that exists in the country, which must be resolved by Venezuelans in an integral and progressive manner, but urgently. ”.
The meeting, convened by the President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, was attended by 18 countries that considered necessary “the continuation of the negotiation process facilitated by the Kingdom of Norway that has taken place in Mexico.”
