Paris, May 8 (EFE).- The Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz, 20, won the Laureus Award for the best revelation athlete of 2022 on Monday thanks to his conquest of the United States Open in September last year and becoming the number one of the youngest men’s world cups in history.
This is the first Laureus achieved by the Murcian, current number two in the world and who has just been crowned in the Masters 1,000 in Madrid this Sunday.
Alcaraz, who succeeds British tennis player Emma Raducanu in the list of winners, beat Kazakh tennis player Elena Rybakina and the Moroccan soccer team, fourth in Qatar, in their category.
Luis Figo, a member of the Laureus committee, presented the trophy to the tennis player.
“There is a team behind it, without them it would not be possible what I have been doing with all the moments of sacrifice and pain that there has been,” he said.
Alcaraz also congratulated all the athletes nominated for the Laureus.
