Logroño, (EFE).- The “heart” of the Brazilian guitar has inaugurated the MayoJazzea Festival, with a concert by the musicians Yamandu Costa and Toquinho held at the Teatro Bretón in Logroño as “a meeting of the guitar culture” of that country American.
This was stated to EFE Costa, who explained that at this festival, which will be held until the 25th, they will perform “Bachianinha”, the instrumental album that was awarded at the 2021 Latin Grammys and which is a tribute to the guitar Brazilian.
Costa (Passo Fundo, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, 1980) is considered a prodigy of world music, since, with his classic seven-string guitar, he interprets various styles from all over the American continent, such as “chorinho”, ” bossa nova”, tango and samba, which makes it considerably difficult to frame it within a specific musical label.
Toquinho belongs to a generation of musicians, including Caetano Veloso and Chico Buarque, who shaped, in the mid-1960s, a new way of understanding musical art in Brazil.
Costa has indicated that this concert will mean playing music from his “cradle”, with his “always experiences” in Spain, which is “the land of the guitar”, so it will be “the meeting between two generations of guitar-playing musicians”.
It has been shown “with a lot of emotion to be playing outside of Brazil”, so the concert has “a somewhat symbolic attitude for being able to try to get the best possible music to people”.
A joint challenge
Playing music with Toquinho (Sao Paulo, Brazil, 1946) is “a good challenge for him and me because we are doing things that are not so common,” he said, and “this meeting that we have pays tribute to the tradition of our Brazilian guitar as a whole. They are different facets of our careers.”
During the concert, he continued, both perform songs separately and together, but always with the aim of transmitting “a great affection of two friends who are addicted and passionate about the language of music and a country, and who are representatives of the same”.
Those who attend this initiative “are going to hear something different, that comes from the other side of the ocean, but with a lot of love, because there are many things involved in this collaboration, a lot of love and admiration.”
Costa has highlighted that “Bachianinha” arose from the repertoire they performed together when they were invited to participate in a festival in Rio de Janeiro, something that came out “in a very informal and last-minute way, very unpretentious and, in the end, the album got a Grammy in a very unexpected way ”.
He has indicated that he is “bored to do the same things”, so that among his future projects is “seeking new challenges so that life continues to be entertaining”, such as participating in “many records”; as well as “editing documentaries and making a lot of content for social networks.”
